Human activity. Those two words have become shorthand for the root cause of climate change, and rightly so. Since the Industrial Revolution, atmospheric levels of harmful GHGs have increased by as much as 50%. All thanks to… us.

Does that mean we need less “us?” Some think so. In the climate change debate, we tend to pit progress and prosperity against the environment, as if humanity and the planet can only flourish at each other’s expense. A zero sum game.

But we believe human ingenuity is capable of more. The world doesn’t need less imagination, invention and creativity. We don’t need less progress. Especially now, we need more.

This is the story of our greatest natural, renewable resource: our capacity to innovate.

Human activity is why we face this challenge, and the right kind of human activity is also our greatest shot to overcome it.

In this three-part docuseries for Bayer, we meet some of the people who are reimagining how the world could work, for our benefit and the planet’s. Each episode uncovers how they’re making a difference in the fight against climate change, while providing a wealth of assets to keep audiences engaged.

Episode 1 — “Out of THin Air”

It was called the holy grail of plant biology. What that meant to most scientists was “it didn’t exist and it wasn’t possible.” Until Dr. Howard-Yana Shapiro found it.

Episode 2 — “Beneath the Surface”

We’ve been pulling carbon out of the earth for centuries. What if farms and crops could help us put it back.

Episode 3 — “The Weight of Water”

The world is in the midst of a water crisis and a climate crisis. One of humanity’s best answers to both? Rice.
